The oceanic character in the work of Mexican Artist Sofía Táboas is evident in works like Espejo de Agua (1998) (a shiny surface made with blue caramel), Silvestre (2001) (a field of flowers that fills the entire gallery), Muro Plateado (2001), or Fuego Envasado (2002) a field of ephemeral fire with 600 items of canned heat. For this show Táboas uses the image of the ocean to create a dialogue with the house of famous Mexican Architect Luis Barragán in Mexico City. There are several shared motifs between Barragán and Táboas: the use of color and empty space, the passing of time, the interplay between real and imaginary space, etc.

Azul Pacífico (Pacific Blue) is a landmark in the work of Sofía Táboas, who uses video for the first time, adding it to the vast repertoire of materials and media with which she alters specific sites. According to her own words “I try to make a small reference to the architecture and to the effect that time and the elements produce on it.”

Sofía Táboas is a crucial artist for recent Installation Art in Mexico. Since the early nineties she has gained notoriety for her interest in dreamy atmospheres and altered living spaces. Some of her works are part of important collections in Mexico and abroad, like The Coppel Collection, The Jumex Collection, the MOCA, Los Angeles, etc.
